Probably this was their worst meeting yet.
One man accused all the others of stuff;
Saying that they just weren't doing enough.
The others had problems with this awful scene;
The things he was saying were hurtful and mean.
"It's just your perception", he roared with a bellow,
"I'm speaking the truth. I'm such a nice fellow!"
"You foolishly think your perceptions are right,
You think that I'm yelling; that this is a fight.
You are quite wrong, you're too sensitive too.
Your hurt's an illusion; It's not all about you!"
"I just speak the truth and say what must be said.
If you find it hurtful, that's all in your head."
And here lies the problem with this point of viewHe thinks that what he sees is honest and true.
Perception is something for others, not he.
And that's a perception, I think you'll agree.
He sees it in others, that's clear in his mind,
But to look at himself, he's effectively blind.
So what can we learn from this, what can we do?
Unfortunately, this is a pickle, a stew.
Because what he sees is indeed a perception,
It's hard to convince him that it's a deception.
You don't see "What Is", instead you interpret.
You filter. You process. You're biased. Admit it!
So if those around you always misperceive,
Perhaps it's yourself that's the one who's deceived.
