Employees at one company had suggested for years that certain functionality was needed in the product. Customers had provided strong feedback that they needed this functionality as there was no good workaround. Management refused to allocate the resources needed, and would not allow work on the idea. One year after employees had given up on it, management decides it is now the most important project. Not surprisingly, employees resist the “new” management initiative, tempers flare, key employees leave. The funtionality does not ever get added.
